Ruxolitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lime interacts with.

Animal research shows that phenolics in lime juice inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4. This has been demonstrated in rats treated with sildenafil, a CYP3A4 substrate, and high doses of lime juice.

Here's the gist: your body clears ruxolitinib using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab work in animals suggests that plant compounds in lime juice can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, ruxolitinib could clear more slowly and build up a bit, which in theory might mean stronger effects and more side effects (like low blood counts, easy bruising, infections, or dizziness).

I want to be honest about the evidence here, though. This is based only on rat studies using high doses of lime juice, not real-world human data, so the everyday risk is likely small. Squeezing lime in your cooking or a drink is unlikely to cause trouble. Before using concentrated lime products, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Ruxolitinib

What Is Ruxolitinib Used For?

Brand names: Jakafi, Opzelura

Ruxolitinib is approved to treat several serious blood and immune conditions in adults, and some in patients as young as 12. It is used for myelofibrosis (a bone marrow disorder that disrupts normal blood cell production), polycythemia vera (a condition where the bone marrow makes too many red blood cells), and two forms of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) — a complication that can occur after a stem cell transplant.

For polycythemia vera, it is specifically for patients who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, a medication called hydroxyurea. For chronic GVHD, it is used after at least one or two other treatments have failed.
