Maqui and Dobutamine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Dobutamine and Maqui in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information, so it is best to avoid supplement amounts.
Breastfeeding Avoid Not enough safety information, so it is best to avoid supplement amounts.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Dobutamine

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Dobutamine is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Maqui has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (minor) — and none of Dobutamine’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Dobutamine’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Maqui. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Dobutamine’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 3 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Chest pain Worth acting on
  • A low platelet count Worth acting on
  • Shortness of breath Worth acting on
  • A fast or pounding heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Nausea mentioned in 7.5% of FDA reports for Dobutamine
  • Headache

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Dobutamine. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 4,905 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Dobutamine that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Maqui’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Maqui side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Maqui has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Dobutamine

This page covers Maqui only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Dobutamine page lists 17 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Coffee Charcoal (moderate), European Mandrake (moderate), Glucomannan (moderate) and Guar Gum (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 7 moderate · 9 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dobutamine page

“Activated charcoal is the one entry here I'd treat as a genuine hazard alongside dobutamine (Dobutrex), a hospital medicine given by IV drip to strengthen a struggling heart. Charcoal binds many drugs and can cut their levels even when the drug isn't taken by mouth, and it's the only major-rated interaction of the 17 on this page.”

About Maqui

What is Maqui?

  • Antioxidant support
  • Blood sugar support
  • Eye health and dry eye
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Heart health

Maqui is a dark purple berry from Chile that is very rich in antioxidant plant pigments called anthocyanins. Early research suggests it may help with things like blood sugar, dry eye, and inflammation, but the human evidence is still limited and far from proven. It is generally well tolerated as a food, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Aristotelia chilensis · Elaeocarpaceae · Berries (fruit); leaves are used traditionally · Capsules, powder, juice, extracts, dried berries

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Maqui is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Maqui record says about it on its own.

Maqui: dosing

There is no official or well-established dose for maqui. Doses used in research have varied widely depending on whether the product was a juice, powder, or standardized extract, so it is hard to recommend a single amount. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them.

About Dobutamine

What Is Dobutamine Used For?

Brand name: Dobutrex

Dobutamine injection is used when the heart suddenly loses its ability to pump blood effectively — a condition called cardiac decompensation. This can happen because of organic heart disease or as a result of heart surgery. It is given intravenously (through an IV) in a hospital or clinical setting to provide short-term inotropic support, meaning it helps the heart muscle contract more strongly.

Clinical trial experience with intravenous dobutamine extends only up to 48 hours of use. Dobutamine has not been shown to be safe or effective for long-term treatment of heart failure, and long-term use of similar drugs has been linked to increased risk of hospitalization and death.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Dobutamine

Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome 449 reports
