Here's the gist with marshmallow root and your pitolisant (Wakix). Marshmallow is full of mucilage, a slippery gel-forming fiber. The theory is that this gel could coat your stomach and gut a bit, possibly slowing or slightly reducing how much pitolisant you absorb. If that happened, you might notice the medication working less well for your daytime sleepiness or cataplexy.

I want to stress this is only a theoretical concern based on how mucilage behaves, not something proven with pitolisant specifically, and it's rated as minor. The easy fix is timing: take your pitolisant first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before having marshmallow. To be safe, run this by your pharmacist or doctor.

Marshmallow root is a traditional herb rich in soothing, gel-like fibers called mucilage, which is why it has long been used for coughs, sore throats, and stomach irritation. What Is Pitolisant Used For?

Brand name: Wakix

Wakix (pitolisant) is used to treat two hallmark problems of narcolepsy: excessive daytime sleepiness (feeling overwhelmingly tired and unable to stay awake during the day) and cataplexy (sudden episodes of muscle weakness or loss of muscle control, often triggered by emotion). It is approved for adults and children 6 years of age and older.

Both uses are specific to Wakix tablets taken by mouth. The drug is not approved for sleepiness or cataplexy caused by conditions other than narcolepsy.
