Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the gist for Wakix (pitolisant). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear this medication. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a hidden stimulant (BMPEA), and lab studies suggest that ingredient can block CYP2D6. If that enzyme is slowed down, pitolisant could build up in your system and hit harder than intended.

In real terms, that might mean more headache, trouble sleeping, nausea, anxiety, or a faster or irregular heartbeat. I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, not on people. On top of that, Acacia rigidula has its own stimulant effects and safety question marks, so I'd steer clear and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. What Is Pitolisant Used For?

Brand name: Wakix

Wakix (pitolisant) is used to treat two hallmark problems of narcolepsy: excessive daytime sleepiness (feeling overwhelmingly tired and unable to stay awake during the day) and cataplexy (sudden episodes of muscle weakness or loss of muscle control, often triggered by emotion). It is approved for adults and children 6 years of age and older.

Both uses are specific to Wakix tablets taken by mouth. The drug is not approved for sleepiness or cataplexy caused by conditions other than narcolepsy.
