Here's the practical takeaway for you: Panax ginseng may gently lower your blood sugar on its own. Since metformin is already working to bring your blood sugar down, pairing the two could add up and push your numbers lower than expected. This isn't about ginseng changing how metformin is broken down. It's simply that both can nudge blood sugar in the same direction.

If your sugar drops too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually tired. The research here is fairly suggestive but not rock-solid, so don't panic. If you'd like to try ginseng, just chat with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep a closer eye on your home glucose readings for a while.
