ACETAMINOPHEN (Tylenol, others)

Concomitant use of pennyroyal essential oil and acetaminophen might increase the risk of acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity.
Pennyroyal is hepatotoxic and depletes hepatic glutathione levels in a similar manner to acetaminophen. A case report describes hepatic failure in a female who took pennyroyal and acetaminophen concurrently.

Isocom is a combination headache product, and one of its three ingredients is acetaminophen (the same medicine in Tylenol). Here is the concern: both acetaminophen and pennyroyal oil are processed by the liver, and both can drain your liver's natural protective chemical called glutathione. That's the stuff that mops up acetaminophen's toxic breakdown products. When the two are used together, there may be less protection to go around, which could raise the risk of liver injury.

To be honest, the evidence here is thin, mostly a single case report of liver failure. But pennyroyal oil is genuinely toxic and should never be swallowed, period. Please don't pair it with Isocom, and ask your pharmacist or doctor about safer headache options.
