Why this applies to Hydrocodone, Ibuprofen

Hydrocodone, Ibuprofen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Peony interacts with.

Theoretically, use of peony may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that peony suppresses the metabolism of clozapine via weak-to-moderate inhibitory effects on CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Vicoprofen pairs hydrocodone (an opioid) with ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory). The hydrocodone half is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies suggest peony root may gently slow that enzyme. If that happened in people, hydrocodone could linger a bit longer, which could nudge up its effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing in the worst case.

Here's the honest part: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube and animal research, never shown in real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since opioids are nothing to gamble with, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two, especially if you take peony as a concentrated supplement rather than an occasional tea.

Here's the thing to know about Vicoprofen: it pairs hydrocodone (an opioid) with ibuprofen (an NSAID). The ibuprofen half already carries some bleeding risk on its own, since NSAIDs can irritate the stomach lining and make platelets a little less sticky. Peony, in early lab and animal research, has shown mild blood-thinning and antiplatelet activity, so stacking the two could theoretically add up to a bit more bleeding risk.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical and based only on test-tube and animal data, not real patient studies, so it's not something to panic over. Still, watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, dark or bloody stools, or stomach upset. If you take peony regularly alongside Vicoprofen, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up so they can keep an eye on things.
