Bazedoxifene Acetate, Conjugated Estrogens falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Peppermint interacts with.

Theoretically, peppermint might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that a single dose of peppermint oil 600 mg inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes and increases the AUC of felodipine, a CYP3A4 substrate. However, in vitro research suggests that peppermint oil only inhibits CYP3A4 at very high concentrations.

Here's the gist with Duavee (the estrogen plus bazedoxifene combo) and peppermint. Both pieces of this medicine are handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Concentrated peppermint oil may slow that enzyme down a bit, which in theory could let a little more of the medication build up in your body. If that happened, you might notice more of the usual estrogen-type effects, like breast tenderness, bloating, headaches, or nausea.

That said, the evidence here is thin and mostly theoretical. It comes from a single high dose of peppermint oil, and lab studies suggest you'd need very high amounts to matter. A little peppermint tea or candy is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take peppermint oil capsules regularly, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up.

What Is Estrogen and Bazedoxifene Used For?

  • Estrogen and bazedoxifene tablets are used to treat hot flashes (sudden feelings of warmth, especially in the face, neck, and chest) in women who are experiencing menopause (stage of life when menstrual periods become less frequent and stop and women may experience other symptoms and body changes). Estrogen and bazedoxifene tablets are also used to prevent osteoporosis (condition in which the bones become thin and weak and break easily) in women who have undergone menopause. Estrogen is in a class of medications called hormones and bazedoxifene is in a class of medications called estrogen agonist–antagonists. Estrogen works by replacing estrogen that is normally produced by the body. Bazedoxifene is used to block the action of estrogen on the lining of the uterus, decreasing the risk of overgrowth that may lead to cancer.
