Here's the thing to know if you're considering phenibut alongside methsuximide (Celontin): both can calm down and slow the brain. Methsuximide is a seizure medicine that already tends to cause drowsiness, dizziness, and trouble concentrating. Phenibut is a central nervous system depressant too, so stacking them could deepen those effects, leaving you more sedated, foggy, or unsteady than usual.

The bigger worry is that phenibut, especially at higher doses, has been linked to dangerously slowed breathing in case reports. Pairing it with another sedating drug could add to that risk. This concern is based on how these substances work rather than hard studies, but I'd take it seriously. Honestly, we don't recommend phenibut at all. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with your seizure medicine.

Methsuximide is used to control absence (petit mal) seizures — brief episodes of staring or lapses in consciousness — when other seizure medications have not worked. Both Celontin and the generic methsuximide capsules carry this indication.

It can also be used alongside other antiseizure medications when a person has absence seizures together with other types of epilepsy.
