Here's the thing to know if you're taking temazepam (Restoril) for sleep: both temazepam and phenibut calm down activity in the brain. Temazepam is a benzodiazepine that works by slowing nerve signals, and phenibut does much the same kind of thing. Stacking two brain-slowing substances can pile on the effects.

When combined, you could feel much more drowsy than expected, foggy or confused the next morning, unsteady on your feet, or have slower, shallower breathing. That breathing concern is the most serious one, and it's been reported with phenibut at higher doses. This warning is based on how these substances behave rather than firm studies, but the caution is real. We don't recommend phenibut at all, so please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything with temazepam.

Temazepam capsules — sold as Restoril and under the generic name Temazepam — are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia, generally 7 to 10 days. They help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

This medication is intended for short periods only. If sleep trouble doesn't improve within 7 to 10 days, that may signal an underlying medical or psychiatric condition that needs its own evaluation.
