Theoretically, phenibut might increase the risk of sedation and respiratory depression when taken with CNS depressants.

Here's the simple version: both phenibut and doxepin are calming to your brain and nervous system. Doxepin already makes you drowsy (that's exactly why it's prescribed for sleep), and it can also slow your breathing and leave you groggy. Stack phenibut on top of that, and you may get more of all of it: deep sedation, feeling foggy or unsteady the next day, and in higher doses, dangerously slowed breathing.

This warning is based on how these substances work and on case reports with phenibut, not on hard studies of this exact pair, so it's a theoretical concern. Still, I'd take it seriously. Phenibut isn't an approved supplement, and we don't recommend it. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with doxepin.
