Why this applies to Albiglutide

Albiglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Phlorizin interacts with.

Phlorizin is a potent, nonselective inhibitor of SGLT1 and SGLT2. It has been shown to reduce blood glucose levels in animal research. Theoretically, phlorizin might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. However, the likelihood of this effect is unclear due to the poor bioavailability and rapid degradation of phlorizin. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the simple version: both Tanzeum (albiglutide) and phlorizin can push your blood sugar down, just in different ways. Albiglutide nudges your pancreas to release insulin when sugar is high, while phlorizin blocks the proteins that help your body hold onto sugar, sending more out in your urine. Stack them together and the worry is additive lowering of blood sugar, which could mean shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or a racing heart if you dip too low.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work. Phlorizin is poorly absorbed and breaks down fast when swallowed, so real-world effects are uncertain. Don't change your albiglutide on your own. If you're considering a phlorizin product, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your glucose readings.
