Why this applies to Gliclazide

Gliclazide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Phlorizin interacts with.

Phlorizin is a potent, nonselective inhibitor of SGLT1 and SGLT2. It has been shown to reduce blood glucose levels in animal research. Theoretically, phlorizin might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. However, the likelihood of this effect is unclear due to the poor bioavailability and rapid degradation of phlorizin. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist: gliclazide is a sulfonylurea, meaning it nudges your pancreas to release more insulin, which brings blood sugar down. Phlorizin works in a totally different way, blocking the SGLT transporters so more sugar spills out into your urine. Stack those two sugar-lowering actions together and, at least in theory, your blood sugar could drop further than expected. With gliclazide, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, or confusion.

I'll be honest though, this concern is mostly on paper. Phlorizin is poorly absorbed when swallowed and breaks down quickly, so a real-world effect is uncertain. Still, if you use both, check your sugars more closely and loop in your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
