Belinostat falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Sage interacts with.

Theoretically, sage might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro research suggests that common sage (Salvia officinalis) can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the situation with sage and your belinostat (Beleodaq). Belinostat is handled in part by a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, which helps move the drug out of cells. Lab studies hint that concentrated sage may slow that pump down. If that happened in the body, a bit more belinostat could linger, which in theory might mean stronger side effects like nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or liver irritation. Belinostat is not a prodrug, so it doesn't need an enzyme to switch on first.

The big caveat: this is only seen in test-tube research, never in people, so it's far from proven. Cooking with sage is very unlikely to matter. Still, since belinostat is a serious cancer medicine, run any sage supplement or oil past your oncology team first.

Sage is a common kitchen herb that is generally safe in food amounts and is traditionally used for sore throats, digestion, sweating, and memory. Some early research is encouraging for sore throat and menopausal hot flashes, but most uses are not well proven. Concentrated extracts and the essential oil should be used carefully because high doses contain a compound called thujone, which can be harmful.

What Is Belinostat Injection Used For?

Brand name: Beleodaq

Beleodaq (belinostat) injection is approved to treat adult patients with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) — a fast-growing type of lymphoma (blood cancer) that either came back after treatment or never fully responded to it.

This approval is based on how well the cancer responded to the drug, including how long those responses lasted. Whether Beleodaq extends overall survival or improves disease-related symptoms has not yet been established. Continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory trial.
