Loncastuximab Tesirine-Lpyl falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Sage interacts with.

Theoretically, sage might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro research suggests that common sage (Salvia officinalis) can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture with sage and Zynlonta (loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl). This is a strong IV chemotherapy-type drug, an antibody-drug conjugate given by your cancer team. The concern on file is that sage may block a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein, and in theory that could let more of certain drugs stay in the body. If that happened here, you might in principle see more of this drug's typical effects, like low blood counts, fatigue, swelling, or skin and liver changes.

That said, this is only a laboratory finding, not something seen in real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a little sage in your cooking. Concentrated sage extracts or oil are a different story. Because this medication is so serious, please run any sage supplement past your oncology team first.

  • Loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl injection is used to treat a certain type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL; a type of cancer that begins in a type of white blood cells that normally fights infection) that did not respond to or has returned after treatment with at least two other cancer treatments. Loncastuximab tesirine-lpyl is in a class of medications called antibody-drug conjugates. It works by killing cancer cells.
