Here's the thing to understand about this pairing. The interaction on file was built around MAOI medications, and amphetamine is grouped with them because it works on similar brain chemicals. Scotch Broom flower contains tyramine, and when tyramine builds up alongside a drug that raises norepinephrine and dopamine, the worry is a sudden, dangerous spike in blood pressure (what doctors call a hypertensive crisis).

Amphetamine already pushes your heart rate and blood pressure up on its own. Adding Scotch Broom, which can also nudge heart rhythm and pressure, could stack those effects. Watch out for a pounding headache, racing heart, chest tightness, or feeling flushed and anxious. To be fair, this caution is theoretical, based on how these compounds behave rather than real patient reports. Still, since Scotch Broom has no proven benefit and carries real risks, I'd skip it. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
