Here's the thing to keep in mind: chlorothiazide (Diuril) is a water pill that lowers your blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and water. Sea buckthorn may nudge blood pressure down a little on its own, so pairing the two could, in theory, add up and push your pressure too low.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when you stand up quickly, and you may feel unusually tired. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not something well documented in studies. Eating sea buckthorn berries as food is unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements are a bigger question mark. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your chlorothiazide on your own.

Sea buckthorn is a berry-bearing shrub rich in vitamins, carotenoids, and fatty acids that people use for skin, eye, digestive, and heart health. Early research is promising for a few uses like dry skin and dry eye, but most claims are not yet proven. It is generally well tolerated as a food, but talk to your pharmacist before using concentrated supplements.

About Chlorothiazide

What Is Chlorothiazide Used For?

Brand name: Diuril

Chlorothiazide is used to reduce fluid buildup (edema) linked to conditions such as heart failure, liver cirrhosis (hepatic cirrhosis), and certain kidney disorders — including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. It is also used when edema is caused by corticosteroid or estrogen therapy.

The oral suspension (Diuril) is additionally approved to treat high blood pressure, either on its own or alongside other blood pressure medications. The intravenous forms — including Sodium Diuril, Chlorothiazide Sodium, and Chlorothiazide injection products — are reserved for treating edema in patients who cannot take oral medication or in emergency situations; these intravenous products are not approved for high blood pressure management.
