Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
THYROID HORMONE
Why this applies to Thyroglobulin
Thyroglobulin falls under THYROID HORMONE — the group Sea Moss interacts with.
Sea moss contains approximately 4-7 mcg of iodine per gram. Iodine in high doses has been reported to cause both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, depending on the individual's past medical history. Taking sea moss could theoretically alter the effects of thyroid hormone.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Thyroglobulin (Proloid) is an older thyroid medicine that replaces the hormones your thyroid would normally make to keep your metabolism steady. Here's where sea moss comes in: it's naturally loaded with iodine, which is one of the raw materials your thyroid uses to build its own hormones. Adding a variable, sometimes large dose of iodine on top of your thyroid medicine can nudge your levels in either direction, potentially throwing off how well your dose is working.
To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how iodine behaves, not strong human studies. Still, since thyroid dosing is finicky, watch for signs your levels have shifted, like a racing heart, jitteriness, fatigue, or feeling cold. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before starting sea moss so they can decide if a thyroid recheck makes sense.

About Sea Moss
What is Sea Moss?
- Source of iodine and minerals
- Thyroid support
- Respiratory issues and cough
- Digestive support
- Skin and hair health
- General immune and antioxidant support
Sea moss is a type of red seaweed that is naturally rich in iodine and several minerals, and it is popular as a 'whole-food' supplement. Strong human evidence for most of its health claims is lacking, and its high and variable iodine content can be a real concern, especially for people with thyroid problems. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, particularly if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a thyroid condition.
