Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the quick version: your Vaseretic combo (enalapril plus hydrochlorothiazide) already works to bring your blood pressure down. There's a theory that stevia might nudge blood pressure a little lower too, so stacking them could, in theory, add up. If that happened, you might feel the effects of blood pressure dropping too far, like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, fatigue, or feeling faint.

Honestly though, this one is pretty soft. It's based on pharmacology reasoning, and the human studies are mixed, with some showing stevia doesn't really move blood pressure at all. The tiny amounts you'd use to sweeten coffee or tea are very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated stevia supplements for a health reason, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

  • Reducing calorie intake

Stevia is a plant-based, calorie-free sweetener that is widely used as a sugar alternative and is considered safe in normal food amounts by major regulators. About Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide

What Is Enalapril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand name: Vaseretic

Enalapril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold under brand names including Vaseretic and Enalapril maleate and hydrochlorothiazide — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). This combination is not meant as the first treatment tried; it's generally used when a single blood pressure medicine hasn't done the job on its own.

Because this is a fixed-dose combination, your doctor will typically adjust each medicine separately first, then switch you to the combination tablet once the right doses are found.
