Stevia and Perindopril Erbumine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Perindopril Erbumine

Perindopril Erbumine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Stevia interacts with.

Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: perindopril already works to bring your blood pressure down. Some early research hinted that concentrated stevia extracts might nudge blood pressure a little lower too. If that were true, stacking the two could in theory add up and leave you a bit too low, which can show up as dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, or feeling unusually tired.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on how things might work, and the studies actually disagree, with some showing stevia doesn't lower blood pressure much at all. The tiny amount of stevia you'd use to sweeten coffee or tea is very unlikely to matter. If you're taking strong stevia supplements daily, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

About Stevia

What is Stevia?

  • Sugar substitute / sweetener
  • Blood sugar support in diabetes
  • Weight management
  • Blood pressure support
  • Reducing calorie intake

Stevia is a plant-based, calorie-free sweetener that is widely used as a sugar alternative and is considered safe in normal food amounts by major regulators. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using stevia supplements for any health condition.
