Sunflower Oil + Fluvoxamine
Fluvoxamine brand name: Luvox.
We found no known interaction between Sunflower Oil and Fluvoxamine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Sunflower Oil and Fluvoxamine
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Fluvoxamine and Sunflower Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Sunflower Oil safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Fluvoxamine
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Fluvoxamine is filed under 14 classifications — including antidepressant drugs, cytochrome p450 2c19 (cyp2c19) inhibitors, cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) inhibitors. Sunflower Oil has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) — and none of Fluvoxamine’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
Sunflower Oil Does Interact With Other Medications
Sunflower Oil has 86 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Fluvoxamine isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fluvoxamine page
“Fluvoxamine (Luvox), an SSRI used for OCD and depression, carries an interaction list that deserves genuinely careful reading. Two entries matter most: lithium, which alongside a serotonin-raising drug like fluvoxamine can tip toward serotonin syndrome, a dangerous excess of serotonin, and activated charcoal, which can soak up the medi…”

About Sunflower Oil
What is Sunflower Oil?
- Cooking and frying
- Skin moisturizing
- Hair and scalp care
- Source of vitamin E and unsaturated fats
- Massage and carrier oil
- Heart-healthy fat substitute
Sunflower oil is a common edible vegetable oil rich in unsaturated fats and vitamin E that most people can use safely as part of a normal diet. As a food it is generally regarded as safe, and it is also used on the skin, but evidence for treating any specific medical condition is limited. If you have a known allergy to sunflower seeds or ragweed-family plants, use caution.
Helianthus annuus · Asteraceae · Oil pressed from the seeds · Cooking oil, topical oil, skin and hair products, soft-gel capsules, ingredient in salad dressings and margarine
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Sunflower Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Sunflower Oil record says about it on its own.
Sunflower Oil: dosing
There is no standard medicinal dose of sunflower oil. As a food, it is simply used in cooking and baking like other vegetable oils, in the amounts called for in recipes. For skin or hair use, people typically apply a small amount as needed.
From our Sunflower Oil monograph — the full record covers uses, side effects and every documented interaction.

Fluvoxamine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fluvoxamine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Sunflower Oil — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
