Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmaline, harmalol, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids can inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes.

This combination pill pairs aspirin with hydrocodone, an opioid for pain. Here's the wrinkle worth knowing: hydrocodone is a prodrug. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn part of it into hydromorphone, a stronger painkiller. Syrian Rue's harmala alkaloids can block that same enzyme, at least in lab studies.

So in theory, less of the hydrocodone gets converted, which could mean weaker pain relief than you expect. On the flip side, the parent drug may linger and still carry opioid effects like drowsiness, constipation, or slowed breathing. Keep in mind this is only theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real patients. Still, Syrian Rue carries its own toxicity risks, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

This combination product pairs aspirin with hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever. The hydrocodone part is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that compounds in Syrian Rue can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, more hydrocodone could linger in your system, which may mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, slowed breathing, constipation, or nausea.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on test-tube research, not on people. Still, Syrian Rue also acts as an MAO inhibitor and carries real toxicity risks of its own, so mixing it with an opioid isn't something I'd take lightly. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining these.

What is Syrian Rue?

There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment.
