drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate brand name: Beyaz.
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 2 drug categories that Syrian Rue can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, high doses of Syrian rue might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Syrian Rue interacts with whole categories of medication. drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Syrian Rue in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate
drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Syrian Rue interacts with.
Cases of hepatotoxicity and hepatic failure have been reported in patients who ingested a large quantity (up to 100 grams) of Syrian rue seeds.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing Beyaz (drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate) and Syrian Rue. Birth control pills like this one are processed by your liver and can, in rare cases, put some strain on it. Syrian Rue seeds, especially in large amounts, have been linked to liver damage and even liver failure. So the worry is that stacking two things that can stress the liver could add up.
I want to be honest: this is a theoretical caution based on how these things work, not proven cases of the two together. The liver injuries reported with Syrian Rue happened with huge amounts (up to 100 grams of seeds). Still, since this isn't a supplement with proven benefits and it carries real toxicity risks, I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids competitively inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Beyaz combines estrogen (ethinyl estradiol), a progestin (drospirenone), and a folate. The ethinyl estradiol part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies, the harmala alkaloids in Syrian Rue can slow that same enzyme. The idea here is that if CYP3A4 is slowed, your body might clear the estrogen a little less, so hormone levels could drift up.
In real life this is theoretical, based only on test-tube data, so I wouldn't expect a big effect. If anything, slightly higher estrogen could mean more nausea, breast tenderness, or headaches. The bigger worry with Syrian Rue is its own toxicity, not this interaction. Before mixing the two, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Syrian Rue
What is Syrian Rue?
- Traditional remedy for digestive complaints
- Used as a sedative or for mood
- Antimicrobial and antiparasitic folk use
- Used as a dye and incense
- Recreational psychoactive use
Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala) is a traditional plant whose seeds contain potent compounds called harmala alkaloids, including MAO-inhibiting harmine and harmaline. There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before considering it.
