Theoretically, Syrian rue might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmaline, harmalol, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids can inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes.

Here's the basic idea with Rubraca (rucaparib) and Syrian Rue. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear certain medicines. The harmala alkaloids in Syrian Rue can block this enzyme in lab studies, which could slow how fast some drugs are removed. If rucaparib levels creep up, you might see more of its usual side effects, things like nausea, tiredness, low blood counts, or changes in liver and kidney lab values.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It is theoretical, based on lab data, not real human cases, so we don't know how much it truly matters. Still, since you're treating a serious cancer, please don't add Syrian Rue without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Syrian Rue (Peganum harmala) is a traditional plant whose seeds contain potent compounds called harmala alkaloids, including MAO-inhibiting harmine and harmaline. There is little reliable human evidence that it safely treats any condition, and it carries real risks of toxicity, so it is not recommended for self-treatment. About Rucaparib

What Is Rucaparib Used For?

Brand name: Rubraca

Rubraca (rucaparib) is used for two types of cancer in adults who carry a harmful BRCA gene mutation (either inherited or found in the tumor). First, it is used as maintenance treatment — meaning ongoing treatment to keep cancer from coming back — in people with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer who responded (fully or partially) to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Second, Rubraca treats metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone-lowering treatment) in adults who have already received androgen receptor-directed therapy. Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved companion diagnostic to confirm the BRCA mutation before starting Rubraca for prostate cancer.
