Rucaparib Camsylate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.

1,3-DMAA strongly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, 1,3-DMAA can increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the gist for Rubraca (rucaparib), your ovarian cancer medication. In lab tests, 1,3-DMAA blocks an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to handle certain drugs. In theory, that could let levels of a CYP2D6 substrate climb higher than expected, which can mean more side effects. With rucaparib that might look like worse nausea, fatigue, low blood counts, or stomach upset.

Honestly though, the bigger concern is DMAA itself. It's a banned, amphetamine-like stimulant tied to high blood pressure, heart trouble, and even deaths, so it really shouldn't be in your supplement cabinet at all, especially while you're on cancer therapy. This interaction is only theoretical (lab data), but please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before mixing anything.

What Is Rucaparib Used For?

Brand name: Rubraca

Rubraca (rucaparib) is used for two types of cancer in adults who carry a harmful BRCA gene mutation (either inherited or found in the tumor). First, it is used as maintenance treatment — meaning ongoing treatment to keep cancer from coming back — in people with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer who responded (fully or partially) to platinum-based chemotherapy.

Second, Rubraca treats metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone-lowering treatment) in adults who have already received androgen receptor-directed therapy. Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved companion diagnostic to confirm the BRCA mutation before starting Rubraca for prostate cancer.
