Nebivolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.

1,3-DMAA strongly inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) enzymes in vitro. Theoretically, 1,3-DMAA can increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.

Here's the situation with these two. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down nebivolol. In lab studies, 1,3-DMAA appears to strongly block that same enzyme. If that holds true in people, your nebivolol could clear more slowly and build up, meaning a stronger beta-blocker effect than expected. That could show up as a heart rate that drops too low, lightheadedness, unusual tiredness, or blood pressure dipping more than it should.

What makes this pairing especially tricky is that DMAA itself is a harsh stimulant that raises heart rate and blood pressure, working against what nebivolol is doing. Honestly, DMAA has been banned as unsafe, so the bigger message is to avoid it entirely. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with your blood pressure medicine.
