Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Duloxetine
Duloxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Cymbalta (duloxetine): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear it out. In lab testing, 1,3-DMAA appears to block that enzyme. If it does the same in people, duloxetine could build up a bit higher than usual, which may mean more of its typical side effects like nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, or a faster heartbeat.
There's a bigger worry to flag. Duloxetine raises serotonin and norepinephrine, and DMAA is a strong stimulant that also revs up norepinephrine. Stacking the two can spike blood pressure and heart rate. Keep in mind DMAA is banned and considered unsafe on its own. This enzyme part is only theoretical (lab data), but please run it past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.
