STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride
Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group 1,3-dmaa interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
First things first: DMAA itself is banned in supplements and considered unsafe on its own, so I'd steer clear of it regardless. But to your actual question, oxymetazoline (whether it's the Afrin nasal spray, Rhofade cream for rosacea, or Upneeq eye drops) works by tightening up blood vessels. DMAA is a powerful stimulant that does something similar throughout your body, raising blood pressure and heart rate.
So in theory, stacking these two could nudge those effects in the same direction. With nasal or topical use, very little oxymetazoline gets into your bloodstream, so the real-world risk is usually small. Still, this is based on how the drugs behave, not solid studies. Since DMAA is risky by itself, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.
