No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Tangerine and Imiquimod in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Tangerine and Imiquimod

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Imiquimod and Tangerine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Imiquimod

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Imiquimod is filed under a single classification — topical drugs. Tangerine has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates (minor) and midazolam (versed) (minor) — and none of Imiquimod’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Tangerine Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Imiquimod. It is the side-effect record for Tangerine on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Tangerine, this list is the first place to look.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Tangerine — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Imiquimod’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Imiquimod column appears here.

What Imiquimod Is Prescribed For, and What Tangerine Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Imiquimod is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Tangerine is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Imiquimod is prescribed for: Imiquimod cream is used to treat three skin conditions in adults: actinic keratoses (rough, scaly patches on the skin caused by sun damage) on the face or scalp; superficial basal cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer) on the trunk, neck, or limbs when surgery is not the best option; and external genital and perianal warts (condyloma acuminata) in patients 12 years and older. It is not effective for molluscum contagiosum in children ages 2–12, and it has not been proven safe or effective in people with weakened immune systems. It should not be used for warts inside the urethra, vagina, cervix, rectum, or anal canal.

    Tangerine for cancer

Observational research has found that daily intake of oranges and/or tangerines is associated with a reduced odds of developing nasopharyngeal carcinoma when compared with consuming oranges and/or tangerines less than once a week.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Imiquimod on your own; if you are taking Tangerine for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Imiquimod page

“Imiquimod (Aldara, Zyclara, Vyloma) is a cream for warts, precancerous spots, and certain skin cancers, and its supplement list is short and workable for most people. Only 3 ingredients are on file, none rated major, and all involve products applied to the skin rather than swallowed.”

About Tangerine

What is Tangerine?

  • Source of vitamin C
  • Digestive support
  • Aromatherapy and relaxation
  • Cough and phlegm (traditional)
  • Skin and flavoring uses

Tangerine is a sweet citrus fruit that is a good source of vitamin C and other nutrients, and is widely enjoyed as food. While the peel and essential oil are used in traditional medicine and aromatherapy, strong human evidence for specific health benefits beyond basic nutrition is limited. Enjoying tangerines as part of a balanced diet is generally safe for most people.

Citrus reticulata · Rutaceae · Fruit, peel, and essential oil · Fresh fruit, juice, dried peel, essential oil, capsules, extracts

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Tangerine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Tangerine record says about it on its own.

Tangerine: dosing

There is no official or standardized medicinal dose for tangerine. As a food, you can simply enjoy it the way you would any fruit. For peel, extracts, essential oil, or capsule products, there is no established dose proven safe and effective for any condition. Essential oils are for external or aromatherapy use only unless a professional advises otherwise.

Imiquimod is filed under 1 classification, and Tangerine has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — none of Imiquimod's classifications are among them.
