Defibrotide Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tarragon interacts with.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that tarragon extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, tarragon might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the simple version: defibrotide (Defitelio) is a powerful clot-preventing medicine given in the hospital when someone has liver blood vessel blockage after a stem-cell transplant. Lab studies hint that tarragon can make platelets (the cells that help blood clot) a little less sticky. On paper, stacking that on top of defibrotide could nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher, meaning things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding.

I want to keep this in perspective. This concern comes only from test-tube research, not real patients, so it's theoretical. Sprinkling tarragon on food is very unlikely to matter. Also, defibrotide is given under close medical supervision, so your team is already watching you carefully. Still, before using concentrated tarragon extract or oil, please check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Defibrotide Injection Used For?

Brand name: Defitelio

Defitelio (defibrotide injection) is used to treat hepatic veno-occlusive disease (VOD) — also called sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) — in adult and pediatric patients. This is a serious condition where small blood vessels in the liver become blocked, most often after a hematopoietic stem-cell transplant (HSCT).

Defitelio is specifically indicated when VOD is accompanied by kidney dysfunction or pulmonary (lung) dysfunction, making it a treatment for one of the most severe forms of this complication.
