Hydrocodone, Ibuprofen falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tarragon interacts with.

Evidence from animal research suggests that tarragon essential oil can cause sedation and motor impairment when administered intraperitoneally at a dose of 1 mL/kg. Theoretically, concomitant use of tarragon with CNS depressants, including antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and tricyclic antidepressants, may increase sedative and other adverse effects.

Here's the gist with Vicoprofen, which pairs hydrocodone (an opioid pain reliever) with ibuprofen. The concern on file is really about the hydrocodone part, since opioids already slow down the brain and can make you drowsy. In animal studies, concentrated tarragon essential oil caused sedation and trouble with coordination. The worry is that adding that on top of hydrocodone could pile on the sleepiness.

Keep in mind this is theoretical and based only on lab and animal research, not people, so the real-world risk is likely small. The tarragon you sprinkle on chicken is not the issue here, only concentrated extracts or essential oils. If you use those, watch for extra grogginess or dizziness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Evidence from in vitro research suggests that tarragon extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, tarragon might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to know about Vicoprofen: it's a combo of hydrocodone (an opioid for pain) and ibuprofen, and that ibuprofen part is an NSAID. NSAIDs already nudge your bleeding risk up a bit on their own, mostly by irritating the stomach lining and making platelets a little less sticky.

Tarragon, in lab studies, also seems to make platelets clump together less. So in theory, pairing concentrated tarragon supplements or tarragon oil with Vicoprofen could add to that bleeding tendency (think easier bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset and bleeding). Keep in mind this is only early lab evidence, not proven in people, and normal cooking amounts of tarragon are very unlikely to matter. Still, run any tarragon supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.
