Here's the thing to keep in mind with NyQuil and valerian: NyQuil already contains doxylamine (a sedating antihistamine) and dextromethorphan, both of which can make you drowsy on their own. Valerian is thought to have its own mild calming effect, possibly by supporting GABA activity in the brain. Stack the two together and that sleepy effect can add up.

In real life, that might mean feeling extra groggy, foggy, dizzy, or more deeply asleep than you expected. That matters most if you need to drive, work, or stay alert. I'll be honest, the evidence here is mostly lab and animal based and fairly weak, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since NyQuil is itself a nighttime sedative, I'd run it by your pharmacist before combining them.
