Here's the simple version: both valerian and chlordiazepoxide (Librium) calm down brain activity. Librium already works by quieting overactive nerve signals, and valerian seems to nudge things in the same calming direction. Stack them together and those effects can add up, so you may feel more drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady than you would from the medicine alone.

I'll be honest about the evidence here: this concern is mostly theoretical, based on lab and animal studies rather than strong human data, so it may not be a big deal for everyone. Still, since both can make you sleepy, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you also drink alcohol or take other sedating medicines. Please don't stop or change your Librium on your own.

What Is Chlordiazepoxide Used For?

Brand name: Librium

Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms in acute alcoholism, and to reduce apprehension and anxiety before surgery.

Note that everyday stress and tension do not usually require an anxiety medication like this one. Long-term use beyond 4 months has not been well-studied, so your prescriber should periodically check whether it is still the right fit for you.
