Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir Ritonavir falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Vitamin E interacts with.

Theoretically, vitamin E might induce metabolism of CYP3A4, possibly reducing the levels CYP3A4 substrates.
Vitamin E appears to bind with the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of vitamin E and other drugs affected by these enzymes.

Here's the idea behind this one. Your hepatitis C combo (Technivie) relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies, vitamin E may gently nudge that enzyme to work faster. If that happened in your body, your system could clear these medicines a little quicker, which in theory could lower their levels and make them slightly less effective at fighting the virus.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical, based on how the molecules behave, not on real patients failing treatment. Everyday food amounts of vitamin E almost certainly don't matter here. High-dose supplements are the bigger question. Since clearing hepatitis C fully matters, just run any vitamin E supplement past your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Ombitasvir, Paritaprevir, and Ritonavir Used For?

Brand name: Technivie

  • The combination of ombitasvir, paritaprevir, and ritonavir is usually used in combination with ribavirin (Copegus, Rebetol), but sometimes it is used alone to treat a certain type of chronic (long-term) hepatitis C infection (swelling of the liver caused by a virus). Ombitasvir is a hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5A inhibitor. It works by stopping the virus that causes hepatitis C from spreading inside the body. Paritaprevir is a protease inhibitor. It works by decreasing the amount of HCV in the body. Ritonavir is a protease inhibitor. It helps to increase the amount of paritaprevir in the body so that the medication will have a greater effect. It is not known if ombitasvir, paritaprevir, or ritonavir prevent the spread of hepatitis C to other people.
