Diazepam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Wheatgrass interacts with.

Theoretically, wheatgrass might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here's the gist for Valium (diazepam). Lab studies suggest wheatgrass may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways that helps clear diazepam from your body. If that enzyme runs faster, your body could break diazepam down a little quicker, which in theory means a bit less of it sticking around to do its job. For you, that might show up as your medication feeling slightly less effective at calming anxiety, easing muscle spasms, or controlling seizures.

Now, the important part: this is only seen in test-tube research, not in real people, so it's very much theoretical and may not matter at all in everyday life. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I also wouldn't change anything on your own. If you'd like to add wheatgrass regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how well your diazepam is working.

What Is Diazepam Used For?

  • Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy (condition that causes difficulty with movement and balance), paraplegia (inability to move parts of the body), athetosis (abnormal muscle contractions), and stiff-man syndrome (a rare disorder with muscle rigidity and stiffness). Diazepam is also used along with other medications to control seizures. Diazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
