Wheatgrass + Zileuton
Zileuton brand names: Zyflo, Zyflo CR.
Wheatgrass has a moderate interaction with Zileuton. Theoretically, wheatgrass might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Zileuton
Zileuton falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Wheatgrass interacts with.
In vitro research shows that wheatgrass induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea with Zileuton (Zyflo) and wheatgrass. Your body clears zileuton partly through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab studies suggest wheatgrass may speed that enzyme up. If it does, your body could break zileuton down a little faster, which might leave less of it working to keep your airways calm. In plain terms, your asthma could feel less well controlled, with more wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. So far this comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, asthma control is nothing to gamble with. Before adding wheatgrass, check with your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on your breathing.

About Wheatgrass
What is Wheatgrass?
- General nutrition support
- Digestive health
- Antioxidant support
- Energy and wellness
- Arthritis symptoms
- Detox or cleansing routines
Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant, taken as a juice or powder, and is mainly used as a concentrated source of vitamins and plant nutrients. Solid scientific evidence for most health claims is limited, and it is best viewed as a nutritional add-on rather than a treatment. It is generally well tolerated, but people with celiac disease, wheat allergy, or who are pregnant should be cautious and check with a healthcare provider.
About Zileuton
What Is Zileuton Used For?
Brand names: Zyflo, Zyflo CR
Zileuton is used for the ongoing prevention and treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents aged 12 and older. It is a maintenance medicine — meaning it is taken regularly to keep asthma under control, not to stop an asthma attack once it has started.
Zyflo (the tablet form) and zileuton extended-release tablets are both approved for this same purpose. Neither form should be used to treat a sudden asthma attack. However, both can be continued during a flare-up of asthma while you also use your rescue inhaler.
