Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group White Pepper interacts with.

In vitro evidence suggests that some constituents of white pepper inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6). Theoretically, concomitant use may affect drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's an interesting one. Auvelity is actually a clever combo: the bupropion piece is there partly to block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which slows down how fast your body clears the dextromethorphan so it can reach the brain and work as an antidepressant. White pepper's piperine has shown, in test-tube studies only, that it may also nudge that same enzyme. So in theory, layering it on could push dextromethorphan levels a touch higher, which might mean more dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, or that spacey feeling.

I want to be honest though: this is purely lab-based, theoretical evidence. Normal seasoning amounts on your food almost certainly won't matter. If you're thinking about concentrated piperine supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

In vitro evidence suggests that piperine, a constituent of white pepper, inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Theoretically, concomitant use with white pepper might increase the effects and side effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.

Auvelity is a combination of bupropion and dextromethorphan. Here's the interesting part: the bupropion is added on purpose to slow down how fast your body breaks down the dextromethorphan, which helps it work for depression. The piperine in white pepper has shown, in lab dishes only, that it can mildly block the CYP3A4 enzyme. In theory, slowing that pathway could let a bit more of the medicine hang around, which might nudge up side effects like dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, headache, or trouble sleeping.

That said, this is purely theoretical and based on test-tube work, not on real people. Normal seasoning amounts on your food are very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about concentrated pepper or piperine supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
