Aliskiren falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Xanthan Gum interacts with.

Theoretically, xanthan gum can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber qualities. Xanthan gum slows gastric emptying and has been used to control the release of drugs in tablet formulations. To avoid any alterations in drug absorption, xanthan gum should be taken 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Tekturna (aliskiren): it's already a pill that the body absorbs poorly, so anything that gets in the way of absorption matters more than usual. Xanthan gum is a soluble fiber that forms a thick gel and slows how fast your stomach empties. In theory, taking the two close together could trap some of the aliskiren in that gel and let less of it get into your bloodstream, which might mean weaker blood pressure control.

This is a theoretical concern based on how fiber behaves, not something proven to happen with aliskiren specifically, and the food amounts in thickened drinks are unlikely to cause trouble. A simple fix is spacing them out: take your aliskiren first, then the xanthan gum 30 to 60 minutes later. Check with your pharmacist if you use it regularly.

Aliskiren and Tekturna tablets are both approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like strokes and heart attacks.
