Some animal research has found that various parts of zizyphus have sedative effects. However, other animal research shows that zizyphus plant extract does not alter sleep parameters when used in combination with pentobarbital.

The piece of Synalgos DC to focus on here is the dihydrocodeine, an opioid pain reliever that can make you drowsy and slow your breathing. Zizyphus (jujube) is traditionally used as a calming, sleep-promoting remedy, so the worry is simple: stacking two relaxing things together could leave you more sedated than you bargained for. You might feel extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based mostly on animal studies, and some of that research didn't even show added sedation. Eating jujube fruit as food is unlikely to be an issue. Concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. Before pairing them, run it past your pharmacist or doctor, and don't drive until you know how you feel.

Animal research shows that zizyphus induces CYP1A2 enzymes. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

The piece of this combo pill that interacts with Zizyphus is the caffeine. Your body clears caffeine using an enzyme called CYP1A2, and lab and animal studies suggest Zizyphus may speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in people, caffeine could be broken down faster, so you might notice less of its usual kick (a little more drowsiness or less alertness). The aspirin and dihydrocodeine parts aren't really affected by this pathway.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on animal research, and it has not been shown in humans. Everyday amounts of jujube fruit are very unlikely to matter. If you're using a concentrated Zizyphus supplement regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
