Coenzyme Q10 Drug Interactions, Uses, Effectiveness, Safety & More
What is this page for?
First and foremost: how Coenzyme Q10 interacts with medications. The heart of this page is the interaction list — every drug Coenzyme Q10 is known to interact with, and how serious each one is.
But these pages have grown well beyond that into a full monograph — what Coenzyme Q10 is, what people use it for and how strong the evidence is, its safety and side effects, and answers to the questions we’re asked most — written and reviewed by the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases, not medical advice, and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

From the HelloPharmacist Editorial Team · Updated July 2026Based on the available evidence, the overall risk of a clinically significant Coenzyme Q10 drug interaction appears low for most people. None of Coenzyme Q10's listed interactions are rated major, and the great majority are minor.
The combination that deserves the most attention is warfarin. Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to a form of vitamin K, and a few case reports suggest it may weaken warfarin's blood-thinning effect, though some early human research did not confirm this. People on chemotherapy drugs called alkylating agents should also know that, in theory, Coenzyme Q10's antioxidant activity could reduce how well these medications work, although the real-world importance is unknown. Because some studies show Coenzyme Q10 can lower blood pressure, it may add slightly to the effect of blood pressure medications, a milder concern worth being aware of.
The long list of interactions can look alarming, but it does not mean every combination is harmful. Most entries are minor, and much of the concern is theoretical, based on possible effects rather than proven problems in people. Even the better-studied interactions rest on limited or conflicting human evidence.
