CVS Health Acidophilus is a single-ingredient probiotic containing Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14, a beneficial live bacterial strain. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients: cellulose, silica, stearic acid, and vegetable magnesium stearate, which are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.

The evidence supporting L. acidophilus comes from clinical research on specific health conditions. It's rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
For atopic disease (allergic conditions), the evidence suggests it's Possibly Ineffective. For acute respiratory distress syndrome, we don't yet have enough reliable evidence to know whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Some people taking it alongside other probiotics have reported mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, or loose stools, though these are uncommon.
In rare cases, L. acidophilus has been associated with serious infections in people with very weak immune systems; however, most cases appear to involve bacteria that were already present elsewhere in the body. Because the safety data are somewhat limited, it's a good idea to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have a compromised immune system.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
