Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Amino23 Vanilla is a liquid protein drink with one active ingredient: sodium. The product also contains a proprietary protein blend, water, natural flavoring, and sweeteners (sucralose and acesulfame-K) as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Sodium is likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for preventing kidney damage from amphotericin B (an antifungal medicine). For bipolar disorder and congestive heart failure, the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether sodium helps or doesn't.
Keep in mind that this product's main role is as a protein drink, not a sodium or electrolyte supplement — if you're taking it for a specific health condition, talk that over with your doctor.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is well tolerated in normal dietary amounts up to the standard daily recommendation of 2.3 grams. However, too much sodium is linked to high blood pressure, heart strain, and worsening kidney disease.
Rare serious side effects from excess sodium include worsening cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. The data on this product's safety in pregnancy shows one rating of likely safe and one of possibly unsafe — the evidence isn't consistent enough to give you a clear answer, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start Amino23 Vanilla, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium, blood pressure medications, corticosteroids, didanosine, sodium phosphate bowel prep, tolvaptan, or any other sodium-containing medications. All of these have documented interactions with sodium at Moderate severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Amino23 Vanilla is a protein drink whose sodium content may matter if you take blood pressure drugs, lithium, certain steroids, or other sodium-sensitive medications. If any of those apply to you, or if you have heart or kidney disease, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before adding this product.
For most people eating a typical diet, the sodium from normal food is the main concern — this product should fit fine as part of a balanced sodium intake.

Amino23 Vanilla by PS ProSupps Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Amino23 Vanilla contains sodium, which interacts with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is lithium (used for bipolar disorder): changes in your sodium intake can shift lithium levels in your blood, potentially causing toxicity on the high end or loss of effect on the low end. If you take lithium, your sodium intake — including from this product — needs to stay consistent, and any change should be coordinated with your doctor.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium also interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), corticosteroids, didanosine, sodium phosphate bowel-prep solutions, tolvaptan, and other sodium-containing drugs — all rated Moderate severity. High sodium intake can reduce how well blood pressure drugs work, increase the risk of dangerously high sodium levels in your blood (hypernatremia) when combined with certain steroids or other sodium sources, and interfere with medications designed to manage sodium balance.
Although we hold no interaction data for the other ingredients in this product, we have checked sodium thoroughly. Altogether, these interactions span 205 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Amino23 Vanilla with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
