by SEROVera
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking AMP 500 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
AMP 500 contains 2 active ingredients: L-Glutamine and organic freeze-dried Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharide. L-Glutamine is an amino acid that your body uses for muscle repair, immune function, and gut health — it's been studied most in people recovering from surgery, those with sickle cell disease, and people managing HIV-related weight loss.
The freeze-dried aloe polysaccharide is included for its potential digestive and immune-supporting properties. The product has no inactive fillers.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence in our data for L-Glutamine shows it is effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and recovery from critical illness or trauma. We hold no effectiveness ratings for the aloe polysaccharide component.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and nausea — especially at higher doses (10–30 grams daily).
Headache, dizziness, and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. A small number of people with bipolar disorder taking glutamine reported mania or hypomania, so caution is warranted if you have a history of mood disorders.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use L-Glutamine only under medical supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplemental glutamine doses during pregnancy, though one rating suggests it is likely safe — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
There isn't enough data on safety while breastfeeding unless your clinician recommends it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding AMP 500 — L-Glutamine may theoretically interfere with how they work, though this hasn't been seen in actual patients yet. We could not check the aloe polysaccharide ingredient for interactions, so mention all ingredients on this product when you verify your medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
AMP 500 may be worth considering if you're recovering from surgery, managing sickle cell disease, or dealing with HIV-related weight loss, since L-Glutamine has evidence behind it for those uses. If you take anticonvulsants (seizure medications) or have kidney or liver disease, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Same conversation with your healthcare provider — the data on safety isn't complete enough to say on our own.

L-Glutamine
Anticonvulsants
Theoretically, glutamine might antagonize the effects of anticonvulsant medications.
Glutamine is metabolized to the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate. Glutamate might have antagonistic effects with anticonvulsant drugs. However, this interaction has not yet been reported in humans.
