What’s inside
Full disclosure
This lozenge contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (at 1,000 micrograms per dose). B12 is a water-soluble vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, support nerve function, and produce DNA.
The lozenges also include inactive ingredients like fructose, sorbitol, cellulose, stearic acid, citric acid, natural flavors, and magnesium stearate to give the lozenge its form and taste.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic condition that affects B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence is less established — we call it possibly effective, meaning some evidence exists but it's not conclusive.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well-tolerated by mouth. Your body excretes any excess in urine, so there's no established upper limit — it's not possible to overdose on it this way.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible; they can include rash, itching, or hives. In very rare cases tied to correcting severe anemia, a serious drop in potassium (hypokalemia) has been reported, though this is uncommon.
B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check with your pharmacist if you take metformin (Glucophage) — it's a Minor interaction, and your B12 levels may need periodic monitoring while you're on both.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward B12 supplement for people with a deficiency or certain conditions where B12 absorption is impaired. If you take metformin for diabetes, mention this supplement to your pharmacist — your B12 levels may need monitoring.
B12 is very safe and well-tolerated, but if you have a known allergy to cobalt, talk to your doctor first.

Formulation
Vitamin B-12 is necessary for the production of energy from fats and proteins and is well known for its critical role in DNA synthesis, as well as in homocysteine metabolism. Methylcobalamin is the co-enzyme form of Vitamin B-12 that has been found to be especially critical in the maintenance of a healthy nervous system. Dietary sources are almost exclusively of animal origin (meat and dairy) and supplementation with B-12 may be especially important for strict vegetarians.
