B-12 Intrinsic Factor Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking B-12 Intrinsic Factor against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of B-12 Intrinsic Factor by Progressive Professional from Progressive Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has 4 active ingredients. The main players are vitamin B12, which your body needs to make red blood cells and keep your nerves healthy, and biotin, a B vitamin that supports hair, skin, and nail health.
You also get folate, another B vitamin involved in cell growth and DNA work, and intrinsic factor, a protein that helps your body absorb B12 from food and supplements. The capsule itself contains gelatin, rice flour, silica, and maltodextrin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease, and likely effective for cyanide poisoning. It's possibly effective for canker sores and nerve pain after shingles.
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency but has insufficient evidence for hair loss (alopecia areata) and is possibly ineffective for multiple sclerosis and seborrheic dermatitis. We have no effectiveness data on file for folate or intrinsic factor in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin and B12 are both generally well tolerated. B12 has no established upper limit because your body clears excess in the urine.
High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea, and one case report linked very high doses of biotin with a serious lung and heart lining inflammation, though the cause is unclear. Both biotin and B12 are considered safe and needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts.
Allergic reactions to B12 are rare but possible, including rash and itching; talk to your doctor if you have a cobalt allergy.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Metformin (Glucophage) is the one medication type we have documented interaction data for — it's a minor concern, but B12 levels can drop with long-term use. We couldn't check folate or intrinsic factor for interactions, so your pharmacist should verify those two ingredients against your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward B-vitamin supplement aimed at people who need B12, folate, and biotin support — especially those whose absorption might be compromised. If you take metformin for diabetes, keep an eye on your B12 levels.
Check your medications on this page before starting, and run it by your pharmacist if you have a cobalt allergy or take high-dose supplements of anything.
