B12 Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Good State
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking B12 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (also called cobalamin). B12 is a vitamin your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.
The liquid form allows for direct absorption and is a straightforward way to take B12 without tablets or capsules. The supplement also contains glycerin, reverse osmosis water, and ionized trace minerals as inactive ingredients—these are excipients that help deliver and preserve the B12.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency itself and for Imerslund-Grasbeck disease, a rare inherited disorder affecting B12 absorption. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence is possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain that lingers after shingles), though the data here is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well tolerated by mouth. Your body clears excess B12 through urine, so there's no established upper limit—you won't build up toxicity from taking more than you need.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible; they may show up as a rash or itching. Very rarely, correcting a severe B12 deficiency has been linked to a dangerous drop in potassium (hypokalemia), but this is uncommon and typically happens with intramuscular injections, not oral supplements.
B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts—in fact, it's needed during both. If you're pregnant or nursing, follow your provider's guidance on dosing.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, let your pharmacist know you're starting B12 supplementation so they can monitor your levels. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredient we checked.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward B12 supplement for people with low B12 levels, certain absorption disorders, or those taking metformin long-term. If you're on metformin, B12 supplementation can help offset the medication's effect on your levels.
If you take any other prescription medications, check them below before starting.
