This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic beet (Beta vulgaris) dried leaf liquid extract. Beet is rich in betanin, a pigment that gives beets their deep red color and is thought to be responsible for much of the plant's biological activity.
The liquid also contains menstruum, an inactive carrier ingredient that helps deliver the extract.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Beet shows possibly effective evidence for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness — meaning some research supports its use, but more evidence is needed to be sure. For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
The data we hold is insufficient to rate its use for high cholesterol (dyslipidemia) or brain function (cognitive function), so we simply don't know yet whether it works for those purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet as a food is widely eaten and well tolerated by most adults. As a concentrated supplement, however, the safety data is limited, so use caution.
Short-term medicinal use appears well tolerated overall. The most common side effects are harmless — red-colored stools and urine, which reflect the beet pigment passing through your system.
Rarely, very large amounts may cause low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) or kidney damage. One case reported black stools and digestive symptoms in an older person on blood thinners shortly after taking beet pills, though serious bleeding was ruled out.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
