Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: beet at 500 mg per capsule. Beet is the whole plant used for its nutrient profile, including betanin, the pigment responsible for its red color and many of its effects on how your body processes drugs and manages blood vessel function.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—rice powder, gelatin, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica—which are fillers, binders, and flow agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Beet has been studied for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness, where evidence suggests it's possibly effective. For COPD, the evidence points toward it being possibly ineffective.
For high cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and brain function (cognitive function), there isn't enough reliable data to rate it either way. If you're considering this for one of those uses, it's worth discussing what the current evidence does and doesn't show with your healthcare provider.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beet as a food is widely eaten and well tolerated by most adults. However, because concentrated supplements like this one lack robust safety data, we recommend using caution.
Short-term use appears to be well tolerated overall. The most common side effect is harmless red coloring of stools and urine—this is normal and not a sign of harm.
Beet juice has also been reported to cause black stools in some cases. Rare but serious effects from large amounts include low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) and kidney damage, which could happen if you take very high doses over time.
There isn't enough data on file about this product's safety during lactation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check any drug broken down by CYP3A4 (a major liver enzyme)—this is Moderate severity and includes many heart, cholesterol, and immune medications. Also check drugs processed by CYP1A2, and any blood pressure medications you're on.
Use the search tool on this page with your exact medication names.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Beet root may help with athletic performance and exercise soreness, but it interacts with a very large number of medications—especially drugs your liver breaks down. If you take any prescription medications, you need to check them against this product before you start.

Beet Root 500 mg by tnvitamins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Beet Root 500 mg by tnvitamins does interact with a number of medications.
The biggest concern is how beet may affect drugs your liver breaks down using the CYP3A4 enzyme system (a group that includes many statins, blood pressure medications, immunosuppressants, and some cancer drugs). Lab work suggests beet's main pigment, betanin, might block this enzyme similarly to a strong inhibitor, which could raise levels of these drugs in your bloodstream.
This is rated Moderate severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beet also theoretically affects drugs broken down by the CYP1A2 enzyme, potentially lowering their levels and reducing how well they work—this is rated Minor severity. Additionally, because beet contains nitrates (compounds that relax blood vessels), it may lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with blood pressure medications is worth a closer look, though one study found no significant effect.
Altogether, these interactions span 850 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact prescriptions before starting.

Beet
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
