Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: beet root extract at 1,500 mg per capsule. The inactive ingredients are gelatin, rice flour, magnesium stearate, and silica — these are common capsule fillers and binders.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: heart circulation and athletic performance.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Coronary heart disease (CHD), Exercise-induced muscle damage, Exercise-induced muscle soreness, Hypertension, Pregnancy-induced hypertension — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Beet is rated "Possibly Effective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beet is rated "Possibly Effective" for Exercise-induced muscle soreness.
  • Also on file: Beet is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Coronary heart disease (CHD), Hypertension, Pregnancy-induced hypertension, Pulmonary hypertension, and more.

The evidence for beet root is mixed. It's possibly effective for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness — studies suggest it may help with both.

For other uses listed — chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) — the evidence points toward possibly ineffective. For dyslipidemia (abnormal blood fat levels) and cognitive function, the evidence we hold is too thin to rate either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beet as a whole food is widely eaten and generally well tolerated by most adults. Concentrated supplements like this one, though, lack the safety data that whole food has, so use caution.

Short-term use appears well tolerated overall. The most common side effects are red stools and red urine — these are harmless color changes from the pigment.

Rarely, black stools have been reported. In large amounts, beet could theoretically lower blood calcium (hypocalcemia) or damage the kidneys, though these are uncommon.

We do not have safety data on file for this product during breastfeeding — talk with your pharmacist or doctor before use if you're nursing.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Beet.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 862 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check any medications that are CYP3A4 substrates (a huge group your liver processes) — beet may raise their levels. Also double-check blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs), since beet can lower blood pressure, and CYP1A2 substrates, since beet might reduce how well they work.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you're looking to boost athletic performance or reduce exercise soreness, beet root has fair evidence behind it. But because this product interacts with a large number of medications through how your liver processes them — especially blood pressure drugs and any CYP3A4 substrates — check your exact medications with the tool on this page before you start.

Beet as a food is fine; concentrated supplements are newer territory, so caution is wise.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.

Likelihood Possible Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Does Beet Root Capsules 1500 mg by tnvitamins interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Beet Root Capsules 1500 mg has a known interaction with 861 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Beet Root Capsules 1500 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this give me red urine and red stools?
Red or even black stools can happen with beet supplements, especially in the short term. The red coloring is just the pigment from beet and isn't harmful. If black stools concern you or persist, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
Can I take this if I'm on blood pressure medication?
Beet contains nitrates that can lower blood pressure, so it could theoretically enhance your blood pressure drug's effect. This is listed as a Minor interaction, but you should check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this product — they know your exact medications and dosages.

What is beet root extract actually for?
Beet root extract is the concentrated pigment and nutrient from beets. In this product it's used for athletic performance and muscle recovery — both areas where early research looks promising.
Is it safe to breastfeed while taking this?
We don't have safety data on file for this product during breastfeeding. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking it if you're nursing — they can help you decide based on your situation.
