When taken by mouth, berberine is generally well tolerated short-term, but it commonly causes digestive side effects: abdominal pain and bloating, constipation or diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting. You may also experience dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, or headache.

Serious adverse effects are rare but have been reported with intravenous use (not relevant to this powder). Berberine is not safe during pregnancy—it may cross the placenta and has been linked to harm in newborns.
